And then I asked Jeremy to do the Premium rabbis for palestinian rights jewish voice for peace action shirt it is in the first place but foreword, which is really special, as I use his designs on the show, and he’s known me for a long time and really understands my work. I really wanted to explore other people’s ideas of what the show is. The fashion journalists who contributed essays were also really interesting—I mean, so many times, I read some theory about something that has to do with the costumes that I never thought of. But I mean, I’ll take the credit for it. [Laughs.] It’s always really fun to find out how deeply people will analyze the psychology of the characters and how that relates to the costume choices. It makes me feel like maybe I’m subconsciously smarter than I am. I think the conversation __Euphoria’s __clothes are in with the world outside of the show is one of the most interesting aspects of what you’ve done. I was going to ask whether you ever find it surreal to walk down the street and see someone whose outfit has clearly been inspired by the show, but then it’s almost like a symbiotic relationship in a way, as you’re taking bits from them, too, and from the world of fashion at large…

I think that’s exactly what it is. A lot of times when people ask me how I feel about the Premium rabbis for palestinian rights jewish voice for peace action shirt it is in the first place but look of the show having reached this zeitgeist-y level, and what it’s like to be responsible for that, I feel uncomfortable with answering that kind of question, and saying that I’m responsible for it or taking credit for it, because it really is a conversation. It’s not that I did all that myself, it’s that I had a platform to put it on television. I didn’t start the train, the train was already on the tracks. Plus, everything’s cyclical—Y2K was already coming back, and the ’90s had already been back. Of course, I took inspiration from what I was seeing out in the world—whether people walking on the street, or through social media, or what designers were showing on runway—but it was all in the ether already. The real excitement for me lies in honing on what the character is going to be, and how they would be feeding off that ether. It has to come through the filter of the kind of style rules I decide on for a character. Some people wear certain colors, and don’t wear other colors; some people will never wear a V-neck, they’ll only ever wear a crew neck; Rue never wears dresses or skirts, for example. Those kind of rules. I think the difference between fashion design, and fashion styling, and costume design—which is a question I get asked about a lot too, because I do a little bit of all of them—are those rules. It has to be so personal to the character and you really have to believe it.
